Rangel's High-Profile Birthday Party, With High-Profile Host Committee
Representative Charlie Rangel, who has recently faced a flurry of tough , intense press coverage, is having what appears to be an enormous birthday party for himself at Central Park's Tavern on the Green on Wednesday, August 6.
The invitation notes that Bill and Hillary Clinton, David Paterson, Chuck Schumer, Andrew Cuomo, Tom DiNapoli, Malcolm Smith, Bill Thompson and Christine Quinn will be there. The "special guest" is Howard Dean.
The event will be a fund-raiser for Rangel's campaign committee, the Victory Fund. The committee is highlighting the "top ten targeted house races," all of which are in the DCCC's "Red to Blue" project. read more »
Vance Still Raising Money for Just-In-Case D.A. Campaign
Manhattan District Attorney candidate Cyrus Vance is having a fund-raiser at Caroline’s comedy club tonight. (How many jokes about A-Rod and divorce lawyers can you fit into one night?)
Vance has already hired Bill Lynch Associates and Cindy Darrison for his campaign, but maintains that he’ll only run if Morgenthau does not seek reelection. Also looking to run for the seat is Morgenthau's 2005 opponent, Leslie Crocker Snyder.
Lynch Aide Not Going to Albany

As Lynch told me on March 12, Paterson “plucked one of our guys, out of my firm, to go work for him, Luther Smith.” read more »
Lynch: 'People Want to Be Helpful'

Democratic consultant Bill Lynch, who has been giving advice to incoming Governor David Paterson, was hanging out this morning outside the executive chambers on the second floor of the Capitol.
I asked Lynch about reports that people are coming out of the woodwork to ask Paterson for favors and jobs. read more »
Bill Lynch Provides Advice and Aides to David Paterson
I just got off the phone with Bill Lynch, a Democratic consultant and adviser to incoming Governor David Paterson.
Lynch, who helped elect David Dinkins to one term as mayor and has been a power broker for decades in New York politics, said that right now he is “advising and helping David wherever he needs help. Mostly, you know, making recommendations, like I’ve always done. I was David’s first campaign manager, and helped him when he became [minority leader] in the senate, and was supportive when he became lieutenant governor, so I want to be supportive now.” read more »
